Over 100 Years of Experience

John Couture

Production Manager

John Couture is Wayfarer’s Production Manager responsible for managing all of our technical operations. John manages the capable Wayfarer crew to ensure each customer receives the highest quality work.

John joined Wayfarer in 2008 after relocating to Maine from Vermont. He spent much of his career as an automotive technician including owning his own business for seven years.  He also worked as a project manager for an environmental control company at IBM. When he joined Wayfarer, John started his career as a mechanic and quickly obtained his ABYC certifications in gas engines and marine electrical. He then became an NMEA certified electronics installer. John also has his federal refrigeration licenses and performed multiple installations while at Wayfarer.
In the fall of 2012, John became responsible for managing Wayfarer’s decommissioning and commissioning work.  His efforts led to increased efficiency and a better run organization. John brings a unique perspective to our team and his strong knowledge of the mechanical, electrical and marine electronics enhances his ability to manage the technical aspects of what we do. John is a highly organized individual, and Wayfarer is pleased to have him our team.

When John is not at Wayfarer, he enjoys home remodeling, especially for a profit! He also has a passion for collector cars. Whenever he and his wife Erika can get away from their busy careers, they love to enjoy their camp in Surry, Maine with their dog Kayah.

Simon came to Wayfarer in 2001. He brings more than 20 years of marine experience to his role of Service Manager. Simon specializes in wooden boats; he entered the marine industry growing up in the Isle of Wight as a boat joiner. He has extensive 'hands on' experience and truly is a world class boat builder. Simon's knowledge is certainly not limited to wooden boats and he is proud to be Wayfarer’s Service Manager in charge of Nautor Swan and Oyster yacht services. He has years of experience in repair and care of sail and powerboats of all sizes.

Doug Woodbury

Service Manager

Doug Woodbury joined Wayfarer as a Service Manager in the fall of 2012.  Doug grew up sailing small boats on Blue Hill bay during his childhood years in Maine. During his summers away from college he worked on traditional schooners sailing on Penobscot Bay. After graduation he worked for a number of programs that took high school and college youths and educated them while sailing large schooners between the Caribbean and Maine for semester credits at sea. When not at sea he would perform work as delivery crew  to broaden his knowledge.  Doug took a break from years at sea and took up residence in Camden and started work at Wayfarer in 1999. During his early years at Wayfarer he worked extensively in rigging, and was privileged to be a part of a handful of large refit projects. Taking that knowledge to sea once again, he worked in the Yacht Charter business.   Caring for discerning customers and ensuring a positive charter experience further refined his customer service skills.  His friendly approach and his eye for detail, helped make his trips an annual occasion for many of his charter guests.  When he returned to the midcoast area, he ventured outside the world of boats. While restoring a property a friend convinced him  to become involved in electrical work. He took his customer service knowledge and put it too work as a Sales/Project manager for a Fortune 500 Electrical Distributor with a local branch in Rockland. Doug returned to Wayfarer with a unique combination of management, service and sailing experience under his belt. He is passionate about boats and equally passionate about Wayfarer and all it has to offer customers.  He is proud to work with the dedicated craftspeople at the yard to deliver world class service to our customers.

Ben joined Wayfarer in 2001. He is a graduate of the Maine Maritime Academy with a degree in Marina Management. During his time with us he has demonstrated huge enthusiasm for boats and all things boating.  Ben now holds the position of Dockmaster during the summer months and  represents Wayfarer in the sales and marketing field in the winter.  His depth of boating knowledge and exceptional boat handling skills, in addition to his outgoing personality, make him a natural 'go to guy' for visiting boaters.
